Negative SEO is really possible?

    After Google has announced to categorize link between 'good' and 'bad' ; there is an obvious question that is coming up. That is if someone intentionally build bad links for competitors website, can their ranking go down? There is a catch though i.e. Google has not clearly mentioned which are good links and which are bad.

    I'm sure Google has thought of that. There must be some sort of protective measure they have in place that won't allow competitors to damage each other's SEO by creating bad links.

    Maybe a bad link is a link that has a bunch of redirects or links to a broken page? In that case it wouldn't be possible to create "bad links". I don't know maybe I'm not really understanding what Google's trying to do here.

    I guess we'll find out before long. If it's a faulty system then people will bring it up in discussion.
